ST. LOUIS (KMOX)- A local sports economist isn’t sure what to make of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sending a letter to St. Louis this week, accusing the local stadium task force of inflating the amount that the league would contribute toward a new football field.
“It’s clear that somebody gave the task force a promise of additional money that perhaps was not something Goodell approved of, and maybe some of the other owners wouldn’t approve of,” Dr. Patrick Rishe told KMOX’s Total Information AM Saturday.
The director of Washington University’s sports business program, Rishe said he thinks the St. Louis NFL Task Force led by businessmen Dave Peacock and Bob Blitz has done a good job in coming up with a stadium plan and funding package that’s palatable for St. Louis.
But, he’s not sure it’ll be enough to keep Rams owner Stan Kroenke from moving the team to Los Angeles, “If it’s just a matter of money, I think there’s a sentiment of getting obviously a team in L.A., perhaps getting two teams there, and the Rams being one of those teams.”
